In July of 1961, General Motors ElectroMotive Division introduced the diesel locomotive that would become one of the most famous models of second-generation motive power. This diesel proved to be the "Revolutionary" GP-30 that EMDs advertising had promised. Auto designers from the GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan contributed to the locomotives sylized roofline and streamlined features. With its unique carbody design, the 2,250 horsepower locomotive looked exceptionally different from all prior EMD models. Very popular with many railroads, the GP-30 remains a favorite of railfans and model railroaders today.---Lionel is proud to introduce our new GP-30 to O gauge railroading. Using top quality materials we bring you exceptional details such as metal sunshades, zinc alloy and stainless steel louver screens, brass fan hoods and die-cast eyebolts. Our designers have conveniently incorporated the RailSounds volume control knob into the side of the gas tank for easy access. The Blomberg trucks are newly tooled and were given the same attention to detail as the body including separate leaf spring and housing assemblies. Of course, this locomotive is equipped to perform reliably with features such as the Odyssey System for speed control, TrainMaster Command Control, dual motor power and bright LED headlights.---The Lionel GP-30 is offered in three major road names: Baltimore & Ohio, Reading and Rio Grande.
